Stop Wasting Your Time on Laundry

Dear Student,

Should you really spend 2-3 hours every week doing your own laundry?

Seriously… your schedule is jam-packed with classes all over campus, fraternity or sorority activities, working out, meeting great people from all over, assignments, term papers, research projects, homecoming, spring break, parties, clubs, watching sports, playing sports, Wii Sports…. the list goes on!

And the truth is… that’s EXACTLY what you SHOULD be doing right now because in the blink of an eye, it’s ALL going to be over.

Let’s face it… if you care about your clothes at all, it takes HOURS to do your laundry right!

Look, if you don’t mind looking like a slob (and permanently damaging your clothes) you can just throw everything in at the same time and hit start.

But if you actually want your clothes to last… to look and smell like new, long after you bought them… you need to be super careful about how you do your laundry.

If you’re like most students, you want your clothes to look their best and last a long time, but…

Here’s a quick rundown of what you SHOULD be doing every time you wash your clothes

Do you really have time to do all this?

1. First you need to gather up all your dirty laundry and a whole cabinet full of chemicals – detergent, fabric softener, oxybooster, stain stick, and dryer sheets (pretty expensive stuff, too).
2. Then you need to sort your clothes properly – lights, brights, darks, and delicates – maybe towels and bedding, too! 
   (Ever notice how freshmen always look slightly pink and gray by Christmas… no matter what they wear?  That’s ‘cause they try to shortcut this whole process!)
3. Then for EACH of those, you need load up the washer, set the RIGHT temperature and pour in exactly the right amount of detergent.  (Use too much and your skin will get irritated – use too little and you’ll end up with dingy clothes.)
4. Now you wait while the washer runs… (If you’re using a laundry facility in your building, don’t even THINK about leaving for a bit… you might not find them when you come back!)
5. Once the washer’s done you need to load everything into the dryer.  (Watch out though… set the heat too high and you’ll shrink everything up so that it looks like it belongs on a toddler!)  So you load up the dryer and then…
6. You wait.  And wait.  Dry yet?  Nope… start it again, then… wait.
7. Once it’s dry you need to take it out and fold it right away to avoid wrinkles.  (What’s that?  You’ll just throw it in the basket and fold it in a little while?  Suuuuuure you will.  Sure.)

Now you’re done!…but only with the FIRST load. 

By the time you do all that for your lights, brights, darks, delicates, and towels…  3-4 hours have gone by. If you do this every week…

…you can easily squander 48 hours every semester just doing laundry!

Of course the REALITY of college life is that you almost NEVER have a single 3-hour block of time to do your laundry right (unless you LIKE getting no sleep).
